Solid wood flooring consists of a hardwood or softwood machined and kiln dried in order to be installed as a flooring surface. The majority of solid hard wood floors are machined with a tongue to one long side and one end with a groove to the other long side and end. Each piece is known as a board, the boards can be installed by either secret nailing to a timber sub floor or fully adhered to either a concrete – screed or timber sub floor. In each case the sub floor must be level to tolerance levels of +/- 3mm over a 3 meter straight edge and dry in order for the hardwood not to take in excess moisture.
